Waikato's average weekly income for people in paid employment is the fourth highest in New Zealand. It has the third highest median house prices out of eleven regions. The most advertised jobs in the Waikato in 2004 were dairy farmer/worker, sales assistant, and clerk. Unemployment in Waikato is low, but slightly higher than the national average.
